| Blessing Way Ceremony
This is an ancient ceremony that welcomes new spirits
to the Earth and recalls the ancestral history of
women. Grandmothers, aunties, mothers, sisters,
daughters, and friends call upon Spirit to be with
mother and child during labor, bringing comfort and
support. In a pre-birth ritual, the women bring
charms and symbols of their wishes and prayers for the
new soul, while singing traditional ritual songs.
There is a guided meditation where we journey into our
wombs to connect to one another and to ourselves.
Charms are tied to a silk cord as a representation of
each wish as it is spoken aloud. The laboring mother
enjoys a foot and hand massage and a magical belly
painting. After being painted, the silk cord and
charms are are placed around the mother’s neck and she
is photographed, making for a beautiful memory and
cover for the baby book.
